Improving Emergency Response Times with the Emergency Vehicle Preemption System

Writer: NJCADNJCAD

North Jefferson County Ambulance District has implemented a new Emergency Vehicle Preemption System along Hwy 30 from Hwy W to Hwy 141. This emergency response system, in partnership with TOMAR Electronics and High Ridge Fire Protection District, enables emergency response teams to provide faster response times while keeping bystanders safer.

The white lights near traffic systems are now indicative that an emergency vehicle is in transit and attempting to pass, so any vehicles in their path should move to make room.

What is an Emergency Response System?

An emergency response system is a system designed to quickly mobilize resources and personnel to an emergency site. This allows for more efficient responses to incidents like accidents and medical emergencies by alerting pedestrians ahead of time so they can clear a path for first responders.

When an emergency is reported, the system will turn on and flash a white light across every major traffic system along the intended route so you know that an emergency vehicle is on the way and to move out of the way ahead of time.

Not only is the community safer, but first responders will have less wait times and less potential accidents. A preemptive warning will provide them a clear path while reducing traffic in the far lane, lowering the odds of a crash or blocked traffic when an emergency strikes.

Keeping the Community Safe With Improved Emergency Response

North Jefferson County Ambulance District was founded in 1975 to serve the residents living in areas of northern Jefferson County. Our District includes 40 paramedics and operates two ambulance hub locations and emergency crews across Jefferson County. Our goal is to make the area safer for you and for our first responders, so we hope this new system helps keep our paramedics and the community safer during emergencies. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. Stay safe, and look forward to future updates.
